Sebastian Frith
Visiting Faculty, Multi-Disciplinary Design (MDD) Department
With experience at leading agencies such as IDEO and Interbrand, and contributions ranging from London’s Olympic Bid design to next-generation digital products, Sebastian Frith brings a global design perspective to his role as Visiting Faculty at the University of Utah. His career spans branding, industrial design, and user experience (UI/UX), and now informs a teaching practice rooted in research, iteration, and innovation.
At the University of Utah, Sebastian teaches courses in digital design and design thinking, including a sponsored studio in collaboration with the Marriott Institute of Hospitality Leadership. In 2024, this initiative took students to New York City to engage directly with industry leaders and explore real-world design challenges. His teaching emphasizes user-centered research, problem-solving methodologies, and the ability to translate insights into actionable design outcomes.
Sebastian earned a BA (Hons) in Product Design from Central Saint Martins in London and a Master of Fine Arts in Design for UI/UX from the University of Illinois. Professionally, he has worked across Europe, Asia, and the United States, with roles at IDEO, Interbrand, and PwC, as well as design leadership positions in technology and manufacturing. His projects have ranged from global brand strategy to health-tech platforms, connected products, and sustainability-focused initiatives.
His vision for the MDD program includes elevating its national profile through strong industry partnerships, expanding internship opportunities, and supporting student participation in international design competitions. He is actively building new pathways for student engagement and professional growth.
Outside the classroom, Sebastian is an avid skier and mountain biker who finds daily inspiration in Utah’s landscapes, which he describes as “paradise.”
