Merel Noorlander
Merel Noorlander (they/them) is a Dutch artist, designer, educator and curator, navigating between Salt Lake City, Detroit and Amsterdam (The Netherlands). They hold an MFA 4D Design, Cranbrook Academy of Art, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and received a BFA from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (The Netherlands).
In their work Noorlander researches expanded forms of media that focus on collective empowerment within social practice and participatory processes. They are interested in how storytelling can function as a guide, a tool — an instrument for pleasure, a playground for imagination right at each person’s doorstep.
They currently teach at Multi-Disciplinary Design Division, University of Utah (US); a research-based curriculum including design context, community-based media design, book & zine publications, performance and immersive installations.
